The city of Charlestown is the capital of the island of Nevis and is part of the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. It is located near the Caribbean coast of the island.
The topography is diverse with rugged mountains gently sloping down to sandy beaches. The climate is tropical and average temperatures are in the mid-twenties. Between the months of December and February, the land is cooled by the trade winds which blow as a gentle breeze throughout the day.
Charlestown has a population of approximately 1,500 people. A majority of the inhabitants are of African descent. The culture is a vibrant mixture of African, Amerindian, English and French traditions. The music of the region is very unique, and there are many musical festivals that allow local artists to showcase their talent.
