Charlestown was founded in 1660. This little city is steeped in history and culture; it offers visitors a fascinating glimpse of the struggle between various European nations to seize power in the West Indies, during the Colonial age.
Situated between two forts Fort Black Rocks and Fort Charles, Charlestown is the birthplace of the famous American statesman Alexander Hamilton. Visitors can learn more about the history and culture of this area by visiting the Museum of Nevis History and the Nelson Museum.
In addition to experiencing the wonders of the history and architecture of this place, visitors can also engage in a host of recreational activities such as swimming, sailing, fishing, diving, bicycling, hiking and horse riding.
Every year, during the month of August there is an annual cultural festival called Culturama where you can get a first hand view of the exciting culture and traditions of the local population. ;
