Trinidad and Tobago hosts several events of political and social importance. The nation celebrates Labour Day on 19 June, which is followed by Emancipation Day on 1 August. The nation celebrates its Independence Day on 31 August. Trinidad and Tobago are well known all over the globe for their annual festival, Carnival. Established by French settlers, Carnival, the most important Trinidad and Tobagan festival is celebrated all throughout the nation with music, dance and parties. The Steelband Music Festival is another popular event. The nation also celebrates Hindu festivals like Phagwah and Diwali. Muslim festivals of Eid al-Fitr and Hosay are celebrated by the Muslim community.
