Info about Bogotá

Area:
1732 km2
Elevation:
2640 m
Introduzione

Also known as the Athens of the Americas, Bogota, the capital of Colombia, is situated at a height of 2700 m in the Andean Highlands in central Colombia and is home to 7.8 million people.

Dry and rainy seasons alternate throughout the year, keeping the average temperature at 14ºC. However, pronounced climatic changes may occur due to the influence of the El Nino and La Nina phenomena.
Of late, a ‘people first’ urban planning strategy has resulted in quality mass transit and more parks, most of which have facilities for concerts, plays and movies.
Bogota is testimony to the heterogeneity within Colombia: futuristic architecture, a vibrant cultural and intellectual life, splendid colonial churches and brilliant museums juxtaposed with shanty towns, drug dealers and traffic jams.

Overall Guide : In downtown La Candelaria, several architectural highlights such as Catedral Primada, Museo del Oro and Teatro Colon are situated. Besides, visits to Monserrate Church (offers a panoramic view of the city), Simon Bolivar Metropolitan Park (used for kite flying, a... more national tradition) and Gold Museum (housing the biggest gold handicraft collection anywhere) are recommended. Bogota hosts the Iberoamerican Theatre Festival, the largest of its kind in the world, biennially in April. More regularly—every Sunday and holidays—Ciclovias are held, peppering over 120km of Bogota’s main streets with hundreds of cyclists. For the seekers of a more visceral experience, the Plaza SantaMaria holds bullfights during January-February. Food and dance, the two obsessions of Colombians, join hands at Andre Carne de Res. Bogota is peppered with many good bars and discos, most of which are located in Zona Rosa.
