    Oklahoma travelogues - September 2003
    Rating:

During this time I went for a 10 day trip to Colorado, Utah and New Mexico. Besides that, I mostly spent time in Norman (just south of Oklahoma City) and on the campus of the University of Oklahoma.

I also visited the Glass mountains in the north of Oklahoma. Oklahoma is mostly flat, these 'mountains' are not that high. They are red, and are called glass mountains because of selenite that makes it look likes there are pieces of glass everywhere. Here are some photos, also of a sign for a mud disposal (??) and a scary looking insect. Somebody from South America emailed me a while ago to tell me that this insect is deadly - but apparantly the US variant is not that dangerous. Anyway, I am glad I didn't touch it ;)

The next day we drove through the Oklahoma Panhandle, the plains: very flat, grassland as far as the eye can see, lots of cows and windmills and some deserted houses.

While stopping at one of those deserted houses to take some photos, there was a thunderstorm approaching. It came towards us, and it was a spectacular show, at 10 in the morning! It was even possible to take photos of the lightning strikes, since they were repeating so you can catch them on reaction, even though it's daylight. We also saw nice mammatus clouds after the thunderstorm. What a morning!

And finally two photos that Oscar took of me.

Later during the day, we found some nice insects, I even found a walking stick/piece of grass, amazing!

That day, we drove on to New Mexico and finally Colorado, and we came back from our trip on the 19th of August. I spent the rest of the time in Norman, here are some photos of the campus, it's quite pretty! And you can find many birds, insects and squirrels there. I also took a photo of the license plate of our rental car, I liked it :)

I flew home on the 6th of September. It had been a great trip, my first experience in the USA, and I enjoyed it a lot! I was very impressed by the size of the landscapes there. I'll be back :)
