I stayed in the youth hostel that is located in St Moritz Bad, on the other side of the lake from the center of the town (St Moritz Dorf). The youth hostel is not as comfortable as the ones in Grindelwald or Zermatt (the rooms cannot be locked for example), but the food there is great!! Dinner is included in the price, and you get a three course meal with unlimited salad buffet and unlimited soup as well. This is a photo of the youth hostel, and two photos of the view from St Moritz Bad towards St Moritz Dorf over the St Moritzer See.
St Moritz is a rather expensive place, even for Switzerland. It's quite posh, with lots of big hotels. The location is pretty, there are lots of lakes around. The mountains are a bit bare, it seems drier than other parts of the Alps.
I took a cable car to Corviglia, at 2486 m. You can go even higher, to Piz Nair at 3057 m, but it was only 5 degrees at Corviglia and I was wearing sandals, shorts and a tshirt, so I decided not to go further up. I had a nice walk down from there, you get very good views over the lakes. The last part of the walk was nice because you walked along this story from a children's book, each time you could read one page, in several languages, including the Romansch that is spoken in this area.
Here some photos, of the Corviglia station and the cable car going up to Piz Nair, the blue train is the one you arrive with, there are some photos of the view, one of the typical signs that you can find anywhere in the Alps so I didn't need to bring a map with me, and a big Gore-Tex advertisement at the Signal station (halfway) that shows the temperature.
