The palazzo del Capitano has reappeared after an extensive and detailed restoration, as a charming hotel with eleven gracious rooms offering modern comforts whilst retaining the fascination of the ancient architecture and enhanced by furnishings following the true Tuscan tradition. The edifice which dates back to 1400 is one of the oldest in the historic centre of San Quirico d'Orcia, a small medieval village in the heart of Tuscany. The hotel has 22 rooms each one with the name of a zodiac signe, constellation or planet. All the rooms have been carefully furnished in the Tuscan tradition with terracotta floors, ceilings in wood beams and antiques. Walls, bed covers and curtains with warm tints for the pleasure of the eyes and the comfort of the guests. Each room has a queen size bed and private bathroom with shower.. All the rooms have air conditioning, heating, satellite TV, telephone and safe.Palazzo del Capitano offers 5 new Wellness Suites, a new lobby “Salone dello Zodiaco”, a wellness centre “The Venus’ Suite” and a new Boutique in the main street, in addition to the already existing Boutique in front of the hotel main entrance, where delicate fragrances, creams and body products made with olive oil and aloe vera can be purchased.. The Wellness Suites offer all comfort for an memorable stay, all with a queen size canopied bed, a Jacuzzi with cromotherapy bath for two people, TV plasma, mini-bar, fireplace and a marble bathroom with shower. On the ground floor our guests can relax in the new lobby “Salone dello Zodiaco” in comfortable armchair and sofa watching TV or reading a book. The SPA “Venus’ Suite” offers a Jacuzzi with cromotherapy bath with natural oil, a steam bath and wellness treatments, all in absolute privacy.The refined and comfortable hospitality of the “ Palazzo del Capitano ” continue to “Casa Camaldoli”, an ancient dwelling of a family belonging to that rural nobility that during the centuries has contributed (helped) to the greatness of San Quirico d’ Orcia. Cassiopea, Andromeda, Auriga, Orione and Pegaso are constellations from which the 5 splendid rooms offered by the “Capitano”, take their name. From the terrace of the Pegaso junior suite guests can enjoy an enchanting view over the Orcia valley endorsed by Unesco as world-wide human heritage.Inaugurated in March 15th the''Enoteca Ristorante Petessi' gets the name of the former Capitano del Popolo of San Quirico d'Orcia who lived in this building in the 15th century. THe former stables with the original vaulted ceilings have been converted into a restaurant room with bar and a large fireplace. In a welcoming atmosphere of the internal room or under the shade of olive trees guests can enjoy typical dishes based on traditional Tuscan recipes, for those who want to discover tastes and flavours of past times.The 'Trattoria Al Vecchio Forno' is a traditional Tuscan restaurant with 2 dining rooms placed on two floor. Fireplace in Tuscan rustic style for the winter nights, a delightful blooming garden for the summer time and for a romantic candlelight dinner, the friendliness welcome for the owners; all this, tasting the traditional regional home made dishes (home made pasta, cakes, soups) with a fine selection of the excellent local wines as Brunello di Montalcino, Nobile di Montepulciano, Chianti Classico.Further to the numerous inquiries from our clients, we have decided to give them the opportunity to buy some of the exclusive products of the hotel. In April 2006 we have inaugurated 'la boutique' a lovely and refined shop next door from the main building. Now the clients of Relais Palazzo del capitano the delicate fragrances spread in the hotel, creams and body products made with olive oil and aloe vera that can be found in the rooms, copper lamps, handmade ceramics used for breakfast, the warm colored linen fabrics. For the connoisseurs a special place is dedicated to the famous and excellent wine of the vald'orcia.In summer guests can relax in the large garden amongst lavender and aromatic herbs in the shade of vines and ancient olive trees. The cellar discovered during the restoration, guards a wide selection of the finest wine such as Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti Classico, Nobile di Montepulciano and the local Orcia d.o.c. During summer meals will be served in our beautiful private garden.For nature lovers it is possible to discover the countryside and immerse yourself in the colours and the moods of this ancient land. Over roads and tracks, walking, riding or horseback riding you can discover the unknown corners of Tuscany. In the village, It is possible to buy typical and genuine products of the area such as honey, biscuits, pasta to name a few. Palazzo del Capitano does not have a swimming pool. Guests of the hotel can enjoy the public swimming-pool which stands at 15 minutes walking distance from us, with no adding cost.
