Hostel Dalescroft in York 

From the moment you arrive at this very special family run guest house you cannot help to appreciate the warmth, comfort and hospitality offered by your hosts Iris and Dennis Blower since 1983.Originally built in 1908 for the management of the world famous York Rowntree's chocolate factory (now owned by Nestlé), this fine example of a Victorian town house was recently refurbished and sympathetically decorated to the original Victorian décor and theme by the present owners.

The hotel has 3 different room types meaning that it can cater for most requirements. Double rooms are lovingly decorated in quiet colours and assure a warm and comfortable night’s sleep. These rooms sleep 2 people but can be used as a single with a reduced rate. Twin rooms are also tastefully decorated in warm colours and assure a warm and comfortable stay. Family rooms are large rooms with a super king-size bed and a single bed. On request, this room can also be used as a triple room (3 single beds).

Breakfast is served from 08:00 to 09:00 Monday to Friday and 09:00 to 09:30 at weekends.Full English breakfast or breakfast of your choice includes tea (flavoured or breakfast) or coffee (regular or decaffeinated), a choice of white or wholemeal bread, fresh fruit, and cereals.

Dalescroft is in the Bishopthorpe Road area on the south-west side of the city where there are restaurants, shops and hairdressers nearby. The B&B is just 500 metres walk from the River Ouse and the splendour of the historic city of York. The South Bank area of York, famous for the Terry's chocolate factory, is also a short walk away. Other nearby attractions include York Castle Museum, on the site of the former York Castle, and Clifford's Tower, part of the remains of the castle.

Travel Information:- The nearest motorway is the A1 (M), junction A64. - The nearest airport is Leeds Bradford Airport (30 km/18.6 miles away). - The nearest railway station is York (1 km/ 0.6 miles away). - Please advise time of arrival and mode of transport so we can have permits ready for cars.By Car:- Take the York west approach A1036.- Turn left at the 1st set of lights.- Go past Tesco on the left towards the city centre.- Travel for one mile (1.6km), passing the racecourse on the right. - Go through the 1st set of lights then take the right-hand lane. - Turn right into Scarcroft Road. (Kwik-Fit will be on your left).- Follow the road to where the side streets go up to your right.- You need Russell Street. Go to the top and turn left; we are the 1st guesthouse.By Taxi:- Dalescroft is a short taxi ride from railway and bus stations. - The local taxi company is called Ace.By Bus: - Across the road from the railway station take the number 11 bus and ask for Southlands Chapel; this is also Southlands Road.
