In late 1917, Wilfred Owen was posted to a reserve battalion, based at The Clifton Hotel, (then known as The Clarence Gardens Hotel). Here he produced “Miners,” the first of his poems to be published.The hotel’s elegant Castle Ballroom offers a delightful setting for social functions, from cocktail parties to birthday parties, wedding receptions and dinner dances.

By Car:From the A64 or A170:- Following either of these roads into Scarborough will bring you to Falsgrave Road.- Turn left off Falsgrave Road onto Victoria Road.- Continue through to Castle Road.- Take the first exit at the traffic circle onto North Marine Road.- Take the 3rd right onto Queen's Parade. The hotel is just around the next corner.From the A171:- Heading South towards Scarborough, exit the A171 at Burniston via the A165 (Coastal Road).- Follow the A165 into Scarborough and take the first exit after the roundabout into Peasholm Road.- Take the next left into Queen's Parade. The hotel is just around the next corner.
