The hotel was built over 100 years ago. The original owner used to row workers across the Tyne to Newcastle, hence the hotel’s name. Today, the hotel’s cosy wooden interiors recreate the feel of a passenger ship. The hotel has a restaurant and bar and you can relax in the lounge or in the conservatory. If the weather is good, you can enjoy a quiet drink in the garden.
Each of the rooms has been decorated to resemble a ship’s cabin and all of the rooms are named after famous passenger liners.Every room is attractive, comfortable and well equipped with all the comforts and facilities you need in a restful, relaxing base.
A full cooked English breakfast is included in the price.The hotel’s restaurant is decorated to reflect the ship theme. With seating for up to 40, it is open to guests and non-residents alike. The à la carte menu offers a wide choice for diners.The Rowers Hotel is proud to have earned an RAC Dining Award, presented in recognition of the excellent menu and the tasty, carefully prepared food.Evening meals and Sunday lunches are available. The restaurant is open from 18:00 to 21:00 during the week and 12:00 to 14:00 on Sundays. Please note that the bar and restaurant are not available on a Sunday evening, but both are open for Sunday lunch.
The hotel is situated just off the A1 at Gateshead, less than half a mile (0.8 km) away from the Gateshead MetroCentre, Europe's largest shopping mall. Newcastle city centre is only 3 miles (5km) away and buses run regularly between the city centre and the bus stop just outside the hotel.
