A Strawberry Tart was ordered for the guest. Instead of stirring the egg mixture into the pastry, the cook poured it over the strawberry jam. The pudding was so well received by the guest that the recipe became recognised as the Bakewell Pudding, although its exact ingredients are still kept a closely guarded secret.
The main hotel dates back to 1804 and all of the bedrooms have been individually styled to ensure that the history of the building has been retained whist providing the comforts of modern day living we have come to expect.
