Quinta Mãe dos Homens in Funchal 

Although Quinta Mãe dos Homens is primarily a self catering facility, it offers many of the services and amenities you would expect from a far larger type of establishment. Centrally located is the solar heated swimming pool, surrounded by a terrace with umbrellas and sunbeds. Beside the pool there is an honesty bar designed to keep you refreshed whilst whiling away those sunny days.Above the pool area you will find the clubhouse which has a lounge, a small library, cable television and a terrace with fabulous views over the bay of Funchal. Next to it is the dining room which is used for weekly informal barbecues, and for breakfast (optional, pre-booking required).There is complimentary iron and ironing board on request. For winter evenings a heater is available for hire, should you require it. Safes are also available for hire.

There are different types of accommodation: studios, family studios and one-bedroom apartments. All apartments have sea views or part sea views with garden access, balconies or terraces. The kitchens are fully equipped and include a gas cooker or microwave oven, a kettle, a toaster, a fridge, crockery, cutlery and utensils. Bathrooms and bedrooms all include sheets and towels which are changed twice a week. All apartments and studios have sofa-beds, and extra beds can be added if required. There is a maid service 6 days a week, while Sunday is day of rest for all. All apartments are provided with linen and towels and are cleaned twice a week. Pool towels are also provided.

Although apartments are all self-catering, a buffet breakfast can be offered on request. There is no charge for infants and children under 4 years of age.A buffet dinner is available twice a week, subject to demand. If weather permits, the buffet is served outside on the terrace from 19.30. There is no charge for infants and children under 4 years of age.You will find an honesty bar by the pool and there is a mini bar in all apartments.

Although Quinta Mae dos Homens is only a short distance from the centre of Funchal, it is a very private Sanctuary, rarely disturbed by the bustle of the city below.The Quinta is situated in a residential area above the old town of Funchal. In Funchal, you will find many restaurants which are in walking distance - approximately 10 - 15 minutes downhill. There is also a mini market close by.Public transport is very easily accessible as the bus stops immediately outside the Quinta.

By Car (from Funchal Airport):- The journey takes approximately 15-20 minutes by car.- Leaving the airport, follow signs to Funchal ER101.- Come off the motorway at exit 13, signposted Funchal (Boa Nova)/ Camaha/ Portela.- Turn left along the ER204 (beware of traffic from the right).- Pass under a small bridge, and follow signs to Funchal - Boa Nova. Go straight on.- On arriving at a pink house on the right, with a palm tree that seems to grow from its roof, follow the road to the right (sharp bend). - Just off the bend, take an immediate left downwards (very steep) to Rua da Rochinha, where you will see a 3.5t warning sign. - Go down this very steep road and take the second turning on the left, to Travessa Manuel Alexandre, a small cobbled street, in between 2 high walls, a school and Quinta Mãe dos Homens. - Halfway along this road, on the right, you will see a big green gate. Ring the bell on the left.- Welcome to Quinta Mãe dos Homens, Garden Village.

A variety of self-catering apartments within the grounds of an exclusive private estate, perched above the old town and overlooking the bay of Funchal.
