Info about Tallinn

Area:
159 km2
Introduzione

Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, is located in the north-eastern part of the country. This city of approximately 400,000 inhabitants is the country’s most important seaport.
Summer is the best time to visit Tallinn. Temperatures average 16.7°C; however, at times, they can rise to as high as 30°C. Winter is quite severe; autumn, wet.
For years, Tallinn’s location made it the bone of contention between Russia, Germany and the Scandinavian countries. Through the years, the city was looted, ransacked and bombed several times. Nevertheless, today it is a flourishing cultural and commercial centre.
In 1997, the old town Tallinn was included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List as a site of cultural importance.

Overall Guide : The cobble-stoned Old Town is the main attraction in Tallinn. The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Toompea Castle and the Raekoda (Town Hall) are some of the buildings that stand out amongst the other medieval structures. The Russian emperor’s summer palace, Kadriorg... more Palace, is located along the coastal area of the city. The 124 m tall St. Olaf’s Church and the two towers, Fat Margaret and Kiek in de Kök, are the other two attractions in the Kadriorg district. Tallinn’s Open Air Museum houses 72 buildings depicting the life of the Estonians during the Tsar’s reign. The Museum of Occupation exhibits the life of people under Nazi regime. Olde Hansa caters to those who want a true feel of Medieval cuisine. No electricity or modern inventions and live performances and food cooked in the traditional way add to the Medieval ambience of the place.

Overall Guide : It's different and striking, Tallinn is a real pearl of the Baltic Sea: have a stroll through the old town, try the excellent cider at sunset in one of the many cafes, the views are breathtaking, and there are lots... more of clubs, especially on the weekend!
