Safety and Warnings in Tiranë: Preserving Tirana

Preserving Tirana

Reviewed by: Jacopo

Rating:

Tirana is a safe city for visitors as the security arrangements are good. Don't trust people that says that Tirana is dangerous. There are a few rural and downtown areas in Albania which face violence and crime but Tirana and Durres are comparatively safer. Travelling at night can be hazardous as roads are in poor condition and street lights are subject to power cuts. Try and stay out of the way of motorists as some may have guns on them. The local traffic police can be strict with foreigners and impose fines for the slightest offenses while driving. Avoid taking photographs in military regions or you can get into trouble with the authorities. Abide by the entry and exit requirements such as carrying a valid passport and obtaining an entry stamp before visiting the region although a visa is not mandatory for most visitors. Be cautious while visiting bars in Tirana: violent incidents are known to have occurred.
