The countryside surrounding Canillo is simply majestic, with rugged, unsheathed mountains skirting the entire town. Well planned and judicious land exploitation has ensured that the scenic and beautiful landscapes remain well preserved.
The splendid church of Sant Joan de Caselles is just a kilometre away from Canillo. Built between the eleventh and fourteenth centuries, the church is an authentic masterpiece of Andorra Romanesque architecture.
The Mertixell sanctuary is dedicated to the Virgin of Mertixell, the patron saint of Andorra. Originally built in the twelfth century, the sanctuary was almost completely gutted by fire. The new structure constructed stands adjacent to the old ruins.
The Cross of Seven Arms, which is Gothic styled, is located on the track between Canillo and Prats.
Other attractions at Canillo include the famous Ice Palace of Andorra with a surface area of 8,000 square metres and an Olympic-sized ice rink.
