Owing to its strong presence in the European Union, Austria has a well-developed social market economy with plenty of foreign investment opportunities. It exports motor vehicles, machinery, paper, chemicals, textiles and iron and steel. However, the most important industry is tourism.
The average daily cost for a tourist is about 130 €–150 €. Trains are the best way to get around if one is travelling inter-city, while cars can prove useful when visiting rural areas.
