The Uhrturm (Watchtower) is perched atop the Schlossberg, which is more than a 120 meters above the city centre of Graz. A riveting view of the city of Graz can be seen from here. The trip by the funicular railway is a must do. The gardens of the Schlossberg are an eye catcher, amply displaying the beauty of the nature. Another important feature of the Uhrturm is the Kriegssteig, a staircase which zigzags by the side of the Schlossberg. Going back down is definitely a different experience in itself. There is a small café by the Uhrturm; providing a good view and while you have a snack. The watchtower is not only beautiful but it also preserves the oldest bell in the country. The hands of the clock on the Uhrturm work in a different fashion to normal clocks. The small hand displays the minutes and the big hand displays the hours making it easier to read the time. The construction of the Uhrturm was completed in 1560 and the bell was rung to announce the awaiting executions.
