Salzburg is home to the residence of the world-renowned composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart’s residence is open to public. The house is also known by the name ‘Tanzmeisterhaus’. It displays some of Mozart’s musical instruments and memorabilia. Mozart lived in this house from 1773 to 1780, while his family resided here from 1773 to 1787. Various guided tours are organised for tourists to view this house. In most tours, handheld devices are given to tourists so they can listen to some musical extracts and the commentary. The house also holds the Mozart Ton-und sound and film archives, which attracts various research students and Mozart fans. These archives form a part of the International Mozarteum Foundation. There is gift shop where one can buy memorabilia and there is also the “Classic Café” where one can partake of a hearty ‘Goulaschsuppe’ and a ‘Weissen Bier’ at reasonable prices. With its location in the centre of the Old City, the spot is a wonderful place to explore.
