Surface: The total land area is around 83,871 sq km.

Population:  The population is around 8,300,000. German-speaking Austrians comprise 90% of the population, while Yugoslavs, Turks and Germans form the minority groups.

Capital: Vienna, with a population of around 1,650,000 people, is the capital of Austria.

Climate: The country has a temperate climate with moderate summers, cold winters and plenty of precipitation.

Currency: Euro (1 € = 1.35 $).

Travel documents required: Except for EU citizens, all other nationals require a visa to enter Austria.
Economy

Owing to its strong presence in the European Union, Austria has a well-developed social market economy with plenty of foreign investment opportunities. It exports motor vehicles, machinery, paper, chemicals, textiles and iron and steel. However, the most important industry is tourism.

The average daily cost for a tourist is about 130 €–150 €. Trains are the best way to get around if one is travelling inter-city, while cars can prove useful when visiting rural areas.
