The Museum of Natural History is known as Naturhistorisches Museum in the national language. This is one of the largest museums in the Austrian city of Vienna. It is located at 1, Maria-Theresien-Platz in Vienna.
It is mainly known for its artistic work called as Venus von Willendorf. The museum is spread across an area of 8, 700 sq. meters. Due to the valuable collection in the museum, it is one of the important museums in the world.
It was established during the years 1872 to 1889. Till the year 2006 the museum had collected nearly 20 million artifacts. This museum was opened as the Imperial Natural History Museum in 1889. Later on, the Imperial Museum became a part of this museum.
These two buildings are identical in their structures. The top most floor of the museum consists of a wide range of minerals and precious stones. The skeleton of the Diplodocus is also preserved here. Check out the 117 kg giant topaz in this museum.
The museum remains open daily from 9am-6.30pm
