The Vienna Opera House opened on 25 May 1869; the first performance at the opera house was that of Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
The building has several attractions one of which is the ‘Grand Staircase’ which is decorated with attractive chandeliers, marble statues and beautiful bronze statues by Ernt Julius Hahnel. The interiors are also a marvel with frescoes by Moritz von Schwind. The operas and ballets that are staged here are of world class quality.
The world famous Vienna Opera Ball, organized once a year, is a sought after event by the old and the young alike.
The Vienna State Opera Museum, at a little distance from the Vienna State Opera, has a record of all the performances in the last 50 years and is worth visiting. |
