The charming city showcases an amazing confluence of rich historical heritage and contemporary dwelling and offers plenty of recreational options to its visitor. Leisurely strolls through the city centre are a must to truly absorb the medieval essence of the place.
The Minorite Church is one of the first Gothic churches of the country and contains a memorial chapel for the martyrs of the two World Wars. The parish church of St John at the eastern end of the Wels Stadtplatz is a late Gothic building with a tall tower surmounted by an onion-dome.
Bad Schallerbach is a hot sulphur spring spa with open air and indoor swimming pools for a relaxed session in proximity with water. Also worth a visit are the Wels Zoo, the Schmiding Bird Park and the puppet museum which are extremely popular amongst adults and children alike.
The annual Wells Fair is held every August and draws many visitors who are eager to watch the knight horse riding tournament.
