The Höhe Tauern National Park was established in 1981 and known as the first national park in Austria. The park covers parts of the three provinces of Tyrol, Salzburg and Carinthia. The park got developed to the largest nature reserve in Central Europe spreading with an area of more than 1,834 square kilometers. The park encompasses 246 glaciers and 304 mountains over 3000 meters.
