Minsk is one of the few cities that still has vestiges of the former Soviet rule and is home to numerous historic churches, museums and statues. The Great Patriotic War Museum showcases the horrific aftermath of World War II. It constitutes an elaborate model of a Nazi concentration camp and a large section is devoted to the Belarusian Partisan resistance in Belarus.
Other major museums include Belarusian National Arts Museum and Ethnography and Folklore Museum.
The Cathedral of the Holy Spirit is a former church of the Berardine convent. It was built in the seventeenth century and is worth a visit. The two other historic churches are the cathedral of St. Joseph and the fortified church of Sts. Peter and Paul.
The city also provides other recreational options in the form of Chelyuskinites Park, Children’s Railroad and the Forest Park.
