The Mercator Ship in the Yacht-Harbour, which took part in several science expeditions, has now been converted to a floating museum. ‘Atlantikwall’ is an outstanding complex of tunnels and bunkers built by the German troops during the two World Wars.
Fort Napoleon, an impressive Napoleonic fortress, is the only one still intact in all of Europe. It is now used as a training ground for climbers. Saint Peter and Saint Paul’s church, built in 1905, is a neo-Gothic church; its uniqueness lies in the extensive use of sandstone in its construction.
The Casino of Oostende is one of the largest casinos in Europe and has been attracting visitors for more than 150 years.
