Waterloo: Attractions and more...
Several monuments have been erected in the city to commemorate the different army divisions that fought in the Battle of Waterloo. The buildings which were the former headquarters of the Duke of Wellington and Napoleon have now been converted to museums exhibiting personal memories, uniforms, weapons etc. of both the armies, respectively.
The panorama of the battle houses a huge circular painting of the battlefield. As the visitor stands on the central platform, he finds himself virtually in the middle of the battle, surrounded by the infantry and cavalry of both the armies.
The Wounded Eagle Monument (L'aigle blessé) is the bronze sculpture of a majestic eagle, critically injured and carrying a French flag. It is dedicated to the last soldiers of Napoleon’s army. The Hannover Monument has been constructed in memory of the soldiers of the city of Hannover who died in the battle of 1815.
