Tourist Guide Aalst

Aalst is a city and a municipality situated on the Dender River and around 19 miles to the northwest from Brussels. This city is located in the Flemish province of East Flanders. Some of the villages near Aalst are Erembodegem, Herdersem, Moorsel and many more villages. 

The first historical records on Aalst dates back to 9th century when it was known as the villa Alost dependent on the Abbey of Lobbes. During the middle ages, a town and a port grew at this point. This city suffered a lot under the Eighty Years War from 1568 to 1648.

The climate changes and its impact can have a negative influence on people and the tourists. So prior to coming for a visit to this city, one has to make sure to at least know the climatic changes and the months which are ideal to come.

Aalst city has a population of 78,000 which makes it the 11th town in Belgium and 6th in Flanders. This town is important as a commercial, industrial and education center for the surrounding villages.
