Sint Jozef and De Meulenaere are 17th century almshouses having a garden and a small chapel too. The almshouses were medieval public houses for the poor. The rich would pay for a person’s tiny small room in one of the almshouses in return of many prayers. The almshouses had a peaceful garden too. Some of the almshouses include the Godshuis Spanoghe, De Pelikaan and many more which are visited by tourists.
