The public transportation system in Brussels is really quite sophisticated, while at the same time user friendly. The three man ways to get around are the metro, the trams, and the bus lines. Using public transportation is essential when traveling, and it also gives visitors a chance to experience their destination first hand and see the important areas of the city. As this is the case for most major cities, Brussels is no exception.
The metro has four lines that run on a regular schedule, and many of the metro stops are worth seeing, as they have extensive and beautiful decorations done by famous Belgian artists. The trams are an experience in and of themselves, as they have several interesting routes. Line 92 starts uptown and stops at the Museums of Fine Arts, Place Royale, Petit Sablon, and the Palace of Justice. An interesting bus to take is line 71, as it is a famous “double-decker” that crosses through the center of Brussels.
Prices for tickets vary, depending on the number of trips you want to purchase at once. There is also the option to purchase a ticket for the entire day if you plan on seeing the whole city.
