Located on Boulevard Anspach in Brussels, Belgium, the Brussels Stock Exchange (BSE) was founded by order of Napoleon at the beginning of the 19th century. It operated autonomously until September of 2000, when it joined the pan-European exchange Euronext N.V, which was soon renamed as Euronext Brussels and later bought by the New York Stock Exchange.

For the folks that want to check it out during their visit to Brussels, the building that houses the BSE is called the Bourse (which translates to “scholarship”), and is located in Beursplein, the second most significant square in Brussels. The Bourse was built in 1873, and designed by Belgian architect Léon-Pierre Suys. The building is a combination of fundamentals from the Neo-renaissance time period with the Second Empire architectural style. The Bourse was built as par to of an urban adornment project in the late 19th century.

In keeping with most historical western European buildings, the Bourse features artwork and sculptures from a wide variety of famous artists. Featured ornaments and artwork include pieces from Jacques Jacquet, Guillaume de Groot, famous sculptor Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, and his assistant Auguste Rodin. When you visit the Brussels Stock Exchange, you will be impressed by how beautiful Belgium’s business world can actually be!
