Museum of Ancient Art is situated at Rue du Musée 9, B-1000 Brussels. It remains open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00 and remains closed on Monday and other public holidays.
The museum is one of the largest and finest art-galleries of the world. Started in 1797, it was originally located in the Charles of Lorraine Palace. It was transformed into a museum in 1846.
Presently, the museum is divided into two main parts: Museum of ancient arts and Museum of Modern arts. The ancient arts section is famous for its collection of Dutch and Flemish masters.
The Modern arts section has sculptures, paintings and drawings. These 19th-Century collections are displayed in a chronological and thematic basis which is spread over 6-floors.
The Antoine Wiertz Museum is dedicated to the titular artist who was a controversial figure of the Romantic Movement of Belgium.
