Located just down the street from the Brussels Stock Exchange, and also very close to Ancienne Belgique in Belgium, L’Archiduc is an Art Deco themed bar that is known for its contribution to the Jazz scene in Brussels.
When it opened its doors in 1937, L’Archiduc was classy and inconspicuous, yet popular among the stock brokers and secretaries that worked in the area. Today it’s still a hit, but the musicians and Jazz performers that play there have really heightened its reputation.
Since its establishment, L’Archiduc has cycled through several different owners. Today it is run by Jean-Louise and Nathalie Hennart, both of whom take pride in propelling L’Archiduc’s legacy. The bar has been a welcoming home to many musicians, including Belgian Jazz pioneer Stan Brenders in 1953. He and his wife also ran the bar for nearly two decades, transforming it into the place we know today.
When you go to L’Archiduc be sure to look for the Big Carlsberg or the Ramée Blonde strong ale. If you’re more of a cocktail person, try out the George Simenon or the Pisco Sour. Also be sure to indulge in a cigar from L’Archiduc’s extensive collection, the most highly recommended of which is the Montecristo NO2. Then relax with your friends and enjoy the jazz!
