Evere is a municipality located in the northeast area of Brussels-Capital Region. As it is a very urban locale, it is home to a quite dense population of more than 6,650 people per square kilometer. Evere is also home to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) headquarters.
Evere houses the Brussels cemetery, which displays several war memorials, including Belgian sculptor Jacques de Lalaing’s large monument to the soldiers at the Battle of Waterloo. The area also has fantastic public transportation options, as it is in the general vicinity of the airport, many major roadways, and railways, including the Bordet railway station. Evere airfield is also the historic location where Charles Lindbergh landed the Spirit of St. Louis after his flight across the Atlantic Ocean.
If you are thinking about moving to Brussels, this is an area worth considering, as its location is very central and accessible. It also has much to offer in the way of authentic Belgian culture. In September 2008, the Brussels Mill and Food Museum opened in Evere. It was previously an old windmill from the mid 19th century. Some restaurants to check out in Evere include Citron d’Evere, and Zinc Bar and Brasserie.
