In 1919, King Albert I inaugurated the first flight school at the Belgian aviation field Gosselies, at the Shepherds Mount which is the highest point of the entire region. Later, in 1931, SEGA started aviation maintenance and which became the center of the Belgian aviation industry too. After the war, Gosselies is classified as public and airfields which are operated by the Regie des voies aeriennes.
