Mechelen is a Dutch speaking city and even a municipality in the province of Flanders, Antwerp in Belgium. The municipality is proper Mechelen with some of its quarters in outskirts. The nearby places include the hamlets of Nekkerspoel which is adjacent and Battel which is few kilometers away. There are also nearby villages like the Walem, Leest, Muizen and Hombeek.

Mechelen lies on the main urban and industrial axis in Brussels-Antwerp. It is almost 25 km from each of the city. Mechelen is one of the Flander’s 6 Art Cities. Most of the cities in Flanders in Mechelen have a mock name for their inhabitants.

As per the 2004 census, Mechelen had a total of 76,981 population of which there were 37,465 males and 39,516 females. The total area is 65.19 kilometers which gives almost a population density of 1,180.91 inhabitants per kilometers.
The climate in this city is similar to UK. Summers are mild with average temperature to 16 degree Celsius and the winters are colder with icy wind from the Baltic.
