Tourist Guide Namur
Namur, the capital of Namur Province in Belgium, is situated at the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse Rivers. The city is the political capital of Wallonia, the French-speaking part of Belgium.
With a population of 1,05,000 residents, Namur is characterised by a temperate climate with warm summers and cold winters.
Namur is an ancient city, and its strategic location at the conjunction of the two major waterways ascertained its prominent place as a trading settlement during the Celtic times. It was subsequently annexed by the Romans, followed by the French.
The city suffered massive destruction during the two World Wars, but has now established itself as a major industrial and administrative centre of Belgium.
