Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina and a huge urban city.
The city consists of four parts, the Old City, the New City, the Centre and New Sarajevo.
Bashcharshiya is the primary market place and it is situated in Old Sarajevo.
There are several shops here consisting of handicraft, pottery, metalwork and jewellery.
The most ancient street here is the Coppersmith Street which was previously a part of the copper craft guild. One can find a number of souvenir items, copper items and other traditional items which were made using special ancient techniques followed by generations.
The Cathedral of Jesus’ Sacred Heart is situated down the street just outside Bashcharshiya.
In Bashcharshiya in Old Sarajevo there is a number of fast food restaurants found today which serve delicious traditional food such as Pitas with different fillings, Bosnian stew and meals consisting of dolmas which are vegetables stuffed with rice and meat.
The Sebilj fountain in Old Sarajevo is a public fountain which was built in 1891 in pseudo Moorish style.
