It would be better to take a guided tour around the city for first time visitors as they are informative and easier for understanding the history of the place and how World War I was sparked off. The city has been renovated and has a number of excellent accommodation facilities such as the Holiday Inn, the Bistrik Guest House, the Skend Hostel and more. Sarajevo downtown has a number of popular cafes and patios. To get good value for your money you can try staying in the heart of the city in Bascarsija. This is the oldest part of the city and one can find it ideal for souvenir shopping as well. The climate is pleasant all through the year and crime is relatively low.
