Bulgaria is generally a safe country for visitors as the crime rates against tourist and in general is very low. However care has to be taken of expensive items, jewellery, luggage, etc. Walking alone in deserted areas at night should be avoided. One should always follow security instructions and local advice.

Food and water both are very safe for consumption in Bulgaria. Mineral water is also easily available at a very cheap price. When in smaller cities it always better to have bottled water.

Immunisation against hepatitis A and B, typhoid, measles and rabies is recommended to all those visiting the country. One should try and avoid insect bites and should always carry an insect repellent.
