The first thing that visitors entering Sandanski see is the proud stature of Spartacus. The town centre offers tourists a Museum of Archaeology and the nineteenth century St. Georgi Church.
Sandanski’s Town Art Gallery and Likin Art Gallery are located on Macedonia Avenue which is also the heart of the city’s shopping district. The street leads up to the town park located on one bank of the Bistritsa River. The Pirin Folk Festival is held annually every September.
Spa-tourism is the city’s speciality and it claims to cure several chronic heart, skin and kidney diseases. The Hotel Sandanski is the only four-star hotel in the region and offers a natural spring as part of its swimming pool complex.
Sandanski is well connected by road and rail. Melnik, on the outskirts of the city, offers tourists the opportunity to explore the Rupite volcanic crater with its hot thermal springs and the chance to visit the Rila Monastery and the Rila Mountains.
