Tourist Guide Varna
Varna, in Bulgaria, is the largest city on the Black Sea Coast. With a population of around 350,000, it is known as the marine capital of Bulgaria. It is home to the country’s navy and merchant marine.
The city occupies an area of 205 square kilometres and follows the tiered terrain of the coast. With a moderate continental climate, summers are the best time to visit Varna.
The city’s first inhabitants were the Corbisy fishing tribe. Later, it was a major naval stronghold for the Macedonians and the Ottomans. Today, it is a seaside resort favoured by the Bulgarian elite.
Organised crime is strong in the city supposedly controlling gambling, tourism and even professional sports. Tourists should also beware of ‘helpful’ locals who inevitably turn out to be gypsies and petty criminals.
