Do not befriend unknown people as there have been instances of people being drugged and robbed after accepting offers of food and drink. Do not ignore the warnings at the beaches indicated by flags as there is a possibility of a high tide and drowning.
It would be best not to exchange money from private currency exchange offices or outside banks as one could be easily deceived. Bulgarians respond to ‘Yes’ by shaking their head from side to side and ‘No’ by nodding up and down.
Crime is relatively low but the number of thefts, especially car theft, is what one has to be careful about. For emergencies one can call up the local police on 160 or make a note of some of the important emergency numbers listed on the internet.
