Tourist Guide Velingrad
Velingrad, in southern Bulgaria’s Rhodope Mountains, lies in the western Chepino Valley. The city is situated around 800 m above sea level with an average annual temperature of 10°C. It is sunny for 74% of the year and the cool summers are the best time to visit.
The city was the site of several massacres by the Turks, and it was only after the rise of communism that the old traditions were revived.
Similar to other cities in the region, Velingrad is another popular destination for spa tourism. There are six main thermal deposits with an average flow of 9,000 litres of water per minute. The water temperature stays between 28°C to 86°C all year round.
Kleptuza, the biggest Karst spring in Bulgaria with a flow of 1,200 litres of ice-cold water per second is another famous natural site.
