The island’s rich religious history is well preserved. The Parish Church of the Assumption in Omišalj, the fifth century Cathedral of the Assumption in Krk and the eighteenth century Parish Church of the Holy Trinity in Punat have survived centuries of visit and erosion.
Cultural festivals like the Krk Traditional Arts Festival in July, the Festival of Young European Writers and the Krk Festival in August are popular island events.
Seafood is a staple of the local cuisine and locals will insist that you try them cooked in the local olive oil. Local pasta called šurlice, makaroni and njoki with Krk lamb and prosciutto accompanied by a glass of the local dry white wine, Vrbnička žlahtina, come highly recommended.
While swimming and fishing spots abound, several operators also offer night fishing trips, glass bottomed boat tours and excursions to the surrounding islands of Rib, Cress, Loin, Grugru, Goole and Plank.
