Punat is a small port town located on the Krk Island in Croatia. Krk Island is part of the Kvarner Archipelago in the Adriatic Sea. The city is on the south-eastern coast of the island on the eastern part of the Puntarska Cove. It is separated from the Krk Bay by the Prniba peninsula.
Legend says that it was named after a bridge that was the entrance to the Puntarska Cove. The island of Košljun is located in the middle of Punat Bay across from the city.
Like the rest of Krk Island, Punat has a mild sea-influenced climate with average temperatures of around 5°C in January and 24°C in July.
With an approximate population of 1,800, the town is a centre for viniculture, olive growing, fishing, ship building and tourism. The Marina Punat is considered one of the three best marinas on the Adriatic Sea.
