Surface: The total land area of Croatia is around 56,542 sq km.

Population:  With a population of around 4,500,000, 90% of the land is inhabited by Croats, while several minorities exist.

Capital: Zagreb, with a population of nearly 780,000 people, is the capital of Croatia.

Religion: The predominant religion of the Croatians is Roman Catholicism.

Official Language: The national and most commonly used language is Croatian.

Climate: The climate is a mixture of Mediterranean and continental with dry summers and mild winters along the coast.

Units of measure and electricity: The country uses the metric system of measurement with the official electricity unit being 230V, 50 Hz.

Time Zone: Croatia follows CET (Central European Time) which is GMT + 1.

Currency: Kuna (1 € = 7.32 HRK)

Travel documents required: A visa is not normally required to enter Croatia.
Economy

Croatia’s economy is service based, with the service sector accounting for nearly 70% of the GDP. Main industrial activities include shipbuilding, food processing, organic food production and chemicals. The country is also ranked as the eighteenth most popular tourist destination globally.

Daily tourist tax is mandatory for guests and can range from 2 HRK to 7 HRK depending on the county you are in. The country has a good network of buses and trains for inland travel.
