Umag, in Croatia, is located on the north-western coast of the Istria Peninsula on the regional road connecting Savidrija with Novigrad and Umag with Buje. The Old Town is situated on the peninsula that separates two shallow bays.
The Umag Marina is located in the northern part of the city and the riviera extends from the Dragonja River in the north to Ladin Gaj in the south.
Similar to the rest of the peninsula, the city has a Mediterranean climate with an average temperature of 4.8°C in January and around 22°C in July, making the summer season a popular time for tourists.
The population of around 7,700 are engaged mainly in farming, fishing and tourism. The successful olive and wine growers have led to a very successful winemaking industry and the rise of a number of successful local wine makers.
