Zadar: Attractions and more...

The city’s Roman heritage stands proud to this day on the western part of Zadar. The basilica, the temple, the amphitheatre and aqueduct have been very well preserved. The forum, founded by the Emperor Augustus, was the largest on the eastern side of the Adriatic, as proclaimed by two stone inscriptions.

The Archaeological Museum holds around 80,000 exhibits and has been open since 1830. The Zadar Faculty of Arts, Historical Archives and Permanent Exhibition of Sacral Art are just some of the city’s cultural and historical sights.

Traditional events are also part of Zadar life with the regular Music Evenings at St. Donat and annual events like the Zadar Summer Theatre festival and the holiday of St. Krsevan.

Home-made speciality cuisine is on top of the list of the many restaurants. No trip is complete without a visit to the home of Maraskino, the town’s own liqueur that was a favourite in European courts as early as the nineteenth century.
