The city is known for its heavy traffic. Teenagers like to drive their cars and bikes at high speed in an attempt to impress everyone. Visitors should be careful when crossing the roads.
When driving, it is advisable to keep an eye on the bikes which can come at you from any direction. There are some hysterical drivers who might change lanes without any warning or signals.
Avoid going to Heroon square especially at night. The area is not safe for unaccompanied females as they may be harassed. Avoid visiting any of the adult entertainment places recommended by taxi drivers.
There is also extreme competitive pressure on agents around a few tourist zones to get customers to discos, bars, shops and restaurants. Some agents may be a nuisance as they hand out unwanted flyers or brochures and lure visitors with false promises.
Some restaurants may charge extra money to tourists for desserts or beverages. Tourists should be extremely cautious while visiting such restaurants.
