The Old City Centre looks relatively untouched with hundreds of shops and businesses squeezed into the same narrow streets. The Municipal Market is a bustling centre of commerce and is always full of locals and tourists.
The Castle of Limassol has survived several earthquakes and is the site where Richard the Lionheart married Princess Berengaria. It now serves as the Cyprus Medieval Museum.
Limassol’s Municipal Zoo Garden, which was opened more than 50 years ago, houses 300 birds and animals that have been brought from other zoos as well as rescued from circuses.
September marks the beginning of the Wine Festival of Cyprus. Visitors have the opportunity to taste some of the country’s best wines. The city also organises a Ballet Festival and the colourful Limassol Carnival in February.
Kebab is the most popular filling and affordable meal. Tourist cafes are overpriced and visitors should look for the traditional Cyprus mezze restaurants.
